Obaid Amrane

Chairman of the IFSWF and ASIF & CEO, Ithmar

Mr. Amrane has been appointed by His Majesty the King Mohamed VI as Chief Executive Officer of Ithmar Capital in February 2019. Mr. Amrane was formerly Deputy CEO of the national agency in charge of deploying Morocco’s renewable energy strategy. In 2022, he became Chair of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF), a multilateral platform initiated by Ithmar Capital.

Mr. Amrane has been elected President of the Climate Innovation Center Cluster ENR, and was appointed by the European Commission as a member of the High Level Expert Group on scaling up sustainable finance in low and middle income countries.

From 2006 to 2010, Mr. Amrane was Managing Director in the banking industry in Morocco. Prior to that, he held various positions in the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance. He was a Public Finance Inspector, Head of the Debt Restructuring Service at the Treasury Division, and then Head of Credit within the same division.

Mr. Amrane holds a dual degree in engineering, from Hassan II Institute of Agronomy, and in Finance, from the General Inspectorate of Finances and the Association of Investment Management & Research (certification).
