Abdishakur Ahmed

Country Lead - Power Africa EECA

Abdishakur (Shakur) Ahmed has over ten years of experience in the energy sector and currently serves as a Country Lead for Somalia, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan for the USAID-funded Power Africa Empowering East and central Africa (EECA), implemented by RTI. In this capacity, he leads the program’s activities in those four countries while providing technical assistance to EECA at the regional level. Previously, Mr. Ahmed was a senior technical advisor to the Power Africa East Africa Energy Program (EAEP) implemented by RTI.

Prior to joining RTI, Mr. Ahmed was an Energy Consultant at Gigawatt Global, a utility-scale wind and solar energy developer with projects across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. He also implemented donor-funded energy projects, including the Somalia Power Master Plan project funded by the World Bank. Additionally, Mr. Ahmed was the Managing Director at SomLite, a last-mile solar product financing and distribution company in Somaliland, and a Business Development Manager at SomPower, Somaliland’s largest electricity service provider.

His experience in the energy sector has focused on decentralized power development, utility power planning and procurement, cross-border power trade markets, electricity tariff setting, carbon markets, and climate finance.
